Hotel Marea del Portillo

¡Guau, qué pequeño lugar tan maravilloso! Ubicado en la bahía de Puerto Portillo rodeado por las montañas de la Sierra Maestra, este lugar tiene una vista conmovedora. Situado directamente en el pueblo de Marea del Portillo, podrá hacerlo a pie, en bicicleta (proporcionada gratuitamente en el hotel), en ciclomotor (alquiler en el hotel) o en coche de caballos (siempre tenemos carruajes a nuestra disposición en la 'entrada al hotel a un precio ridículo) ve a visitar los alrededores; ya sea en el pueblo de Marea o en la montaña! ¡¡Vista impresionante!
El hotel está dividido en 2 secciones: el amigo club, ubicado directamente en la playa y el Farallón ubicado en lo alto de la montaña. ¡La parte Farallón es un poco más lujosa con una vista espléndida a la bahía y las montañas! ¡¡¡La parte del club amigo sigue siendo muy bonita con sus cabañas situadas directamente en la playa! Estuve en una cabaña y me encantó estar ubicado Directamente en la playa además de estar a un paso de la piscina, snack bar abierto las 24 horas y el bar también las 24 horas. El entretenimiento nocturno también está presente a pesar de mi proximidad, no me molestó estar en mi habitación cuando no estaba en el espectáculo.
La comida siempre es buena y sabrosa en los 2 buffets (club amigo y Farallón)
Todos tenemos acceso al 2do lugar.
Definitivamente regresaré a este lugar! ¡Y la próxima vez 2 semanas ya que hay mucho que hacer cerca!
¡El pueblo de Pilón ubicado a 15 minutos en auto desde el hotel también es un lugar muy lindo para visitar!
También recomiendo el restaurante Dany's ubicado en Marea del Portillo donde comí un delicioso plato de langosta ($15) y compartimos un plato de pulpo ($12)!
Por menos de $20 comí mi plato principal y una cerveza. ¡Los platos cuestan $15 cada uno o menos! En dinero canadiense.

Permítanme compartir la increíble experiencia que tuvimos en nuestras recientes vacaciones en una parte remota e impresionante de Cuba desde finales de enero hasta principios de febrero de 2024. Este hotel, déjenme decirles, no es el típico hotel de tres estrellas: merece un sólido 4,5.estrellas, tal vez incluso más. Hemos visitado muchos complejos turísticos cubanos antes, siempre buscando los de primer nivel con 4,5 estrellas o más. Pero esta vez, hicimos un acto de fe basado en la entusiasta recomendación de un amigo, y vaya, estamos contentos de haberlo hecho.

Imagínese esto: ubicado junto a las majestuosas montañas de la Sierra Maestra, con el Mar Caribe extendiéndose frente a usted. ¿La Sierra Maestra? Allí es donde Fidel Castro instaló su campamento durante la revolución cubana. Hoy en día es un parque nacional designado y nuestro hotel tuvo el privilegio de estar justo al lado.

Aquí está la configuración: el hotel, Club Amigo, tiene dos secciones, Marea del Portilo y Farallón, separadas por unos 800 metros. Están conectados mediante carritos de golf, pero también puedes dar un paseo tranquilo por la carretera que los conecta o incluso por la playa si lo deseas. Optamos por el Hotel Farallón, ubicado en lo alto de la colina para disfrutar de esas impresionantes vistas. Y déjame decirte que ambas secciones tenían todo lo que pudieras pedir: restaurantes, piscinas, bares, lo que sea. Además, eres libre de desplazarte entre ellos como quieras.

Ahora, en cuanto a Internet: es sorprendentemente rápido, pero tiene sus momentos, especialmente en días ventosos o lluviosos. Y déjame decirte que en el Hotel Farallón definitivamente estábamos entre la gente más joven: ¡se sentía como un refugio para jubilados allí arriba! Marea del Portillo tenía una mezcla de edades, pero no había muchos niños corriendo, lo cual nos vino muy bien.

Ahora, a la comida. Dada la situación de escasez de alimentos en Cuba, nuestras expectativas no eran muy altas, pero quedamos gratamente sorprendidos. Las comidas eran decentes y con esas impresionantes vistas como telón de fondo, se sintió como una verdadera experiencia gastronómica.

¿Y la gente? Absolutamente encantador. El personal era amable y los lugareños. Gente sencilla, humilde y que aprecia las pequeñas cosas. En serio, un pequeño obsequio ayuda mucho. Hazte un favor y empaca algunas delicias para compartir con ellos: les alegrarás el día.

Ah, y aquí tienes un consejo: guarda algunos billetes de 1 dólar estadounidense en tu cartera. Trajimos $150 en billetes individuales y, déjame decirte, fue muy fácil dejar propina. No hay cambio de moneda en el resort ni en ningún lugar cercano, ¿y monedas? Olvídate de ellos. Los locos y toonies canadienses no servirán aquí.

Desde el aeropuerto de Manzanillo, prepárese para un viaje panorámico de dos horas por sinuosas carreteras rurales. Disfrutará de vistas pintorescas de extensas granjas, océanos relucientes, bosques frondosos y montañas majestuosas. Es un viaje que verdaderamente resume la belleza natural del campo cubano.

A medida que se acerque al complejo, es posible que note un efecto de distorsión en el tiempo. Los alrededores parecen congelados en el tiempo, con un encanto del viejo mundo que es a la vez intrigante y nostálgico. Pero luego, al llegar al hotel, prepárese para llevarse una grata sorpresa. El ambiente es vibrante, casi exuberante, y te recibe con los brazos abiertos.

Claro, el complejo tiene algunos años en su haber, pero no dejes que eso te engañe. Gracias a las meticulosas etapas de renovación, todo se siente fresco y rejuvenecido. Las instalaciones relucen como nuevas, ¿y las habitaciones? Impecablemente limpio, ofrece un cómodo santuario después de un día de exploración y aventura. Es un testimonio de la dedicación y el cuidado puestos en mantener este oasis escondido.

En general, le daría a este complejo un sólido 9 sobre 10. Ya estamos planeando nuestro próximo viaje de regreso; eso es lo mucho que nos encantó. Créeme, ¡no te arrepentirás!

Lo pasamos fantástico, el personal y los lugareños son muy acogedores. Definitivamente regresará y no puedo esperar a ver completas todas las renovaciones. Fue una aventura poder conocer a la gente local y al fantástico personal. La víspera de año nuevo fue genial, gracias al personal de animación

El hotel parece limpio y una gran bienvenida con un increíble lado de la playa.

El entretenimiento es genial, especialmente las fiestas en la playa y los eventos con los músicos.

La comida y las bebidas son buenas para los estándares cubanos.

This place is not in business.roads to location was horrible. At one time it may have been amazing. The view is amazing water was clean.beaches were all dirty no one there to clean it. Also there is no food or water in any store. At this time I would sty away from this place and any others in this area. Also many power outages. People are wonderful in CUBA

El servicio y la calidad de las habitaciones es pésimo.además el dinero en dólares recaudado el régimen lo usa para reprimir al pueblo de cuba y a los jóvenes.no te manches las manos con sangre cubana.

Have been to this resort many times over the years now while it does cater more to repeaters and snowbirds the staff is very friendly the resort itself is a little older and in need of a few repairs it is kept exceptionally clean the food is ok and is a very safe place to go even the excursions into town for festivals are top notch and the people are very friendly and accommodating

If you're looking for peace, enjoy nature, and Caribbean coast this is an amazing place to go. 100% recommend

Primera mente salí muy decepcionada de ese hotel para ser la primera vez q iva la comida muy mala el servicio también creo que deberian dar mas clases para las personasque trabajan el el restaurante Buffet y en ranchon también pues ocultaban la comida para otras personas y el trato fue horrible donde unico me trataron bien fuen el bar. Pues fueron bien amables y no quiero seguir diciendo más pues fue horrible. Espero q en un futuro cambien

Lugar para relajarse y estar en contacto directo con la naturaleza. La gente del pueblo es amigable.

Tengo una reservación para este hotel, necesito saber si me puedo casar ahí y cuánto me cobran extra por este servicio.

Very sad, been going for more than 15 years, took a four year break, 2019 went to see friends. This hotel is a disaster. Staff very rude, drinking alchohol, no snack bar food, ran out of soft drinks, Cubans got priority being served. It was a mess. Will not go back, rather spend the money and go elsewhere as I've done for the last four years. Surprised it has not shut it's doors. Do not recomend.

Nice place, go for the view and the people. If you like the party circuit of Veradero, this is not the place to go. If you want amazing natural beauty and the ability to go off on your own look no further. The food, well it is a 3 star hotel, the food is pretty basic, like the star rating.

Short version: A few hiccups here and there but overall we had a very nice vacation. If you're not too picky, it's worth its price or even more. We plan on coming back again at some point. We liked that this place is full of natural life.

Long version: We stayed at a Cabana in Marea del Portillo. We liked it because it's further into the resort and a little more private compared to staying in the hotel rooms. The hotel rooms are right off the lobby and everybody walks through the walkway infront of it to get to the buffet restaurant. Only downside of a Cabana is when it's raining, the tiles they used on the walkways are very slippery and doesn't have a roof. We are on the ground level which has direct access to the beach from the back door.

Room: The room is a little outdated. The beds are spring and a little uncomfortable but we still slept through the night so it's all good. A few bugs here and there but that's because there's a gap under the front door. Also, the glass wall facing the sea may have giant crabs knocking on it. Bring insect repellant if you plan on staying our during the night because of the mosquitos. No room service.

Beach: The beach is full of floating seaweed and the waves are strong. The shore is full of rocks but in water, the sand is very fine. If you walk towards the right hand end of the beach, the waves are very calm and there's a lot of seagrass. There, if you look into the water, you'll see fishes swimming.

Lobby: there's wifi in the lobby for 1 CUC an hour. There's also money changing service at the hotel but have a dollar or two to give the porter when you reach the hotel.

Food: Buffet runs 7-10 am, 12-2 pm and 6-930 pm. We really liked the buffet the first 3 days but after that, it gets old. They serve the same thing everyday. Maybe a little more variation would let it improve. There's always fruit for dessert. During breakfast, they have fruit juices. Lunch, they serve softdrinks, beer or wine. *They have diet cola*. They have a made to order corner on the left portion of the dining area. For breakfast, you can ask for eggs and bacon (don't hesitate to ask for sunnyside up even though no one else does). For lunch, they have grilled fish.

If you miss the buffet, there's a 24 hour snack bar to the left of the pool. They served fries for the first 3 days then banana chips after that. They also have hamburger patties, chicken burger patties, and hotdogs depending on the day but there are no buns. I don't see bread much in the buffet either so you might want to bring some. The snack bar also serves coffee and they always have water to fill up your water bottle with.

Every room gets a one time dinner at the Ala Carte restaurant to the right corner of the pool. You just have to knock and make a reservation. There, we were given a soup, a dinner and ice cream for dessert.

Bar: The pool bar is open i think from 9 am to 11 pm. Then the beach bar is open from 11 pm - 2 am. The drinks are not bad but they don't have everything on the menu. I liked their beer though. They have two pool tables but only one set of balls. They also have a pingpong table.

Excursions: We only went on the horseback riding one. Each person gets on their own horse and we go to a small falls that has a swimming hole and walks through the local community. It was good and we liked the tour overall. Also, we heard great things about Cayo Blanco and saw pictures. Cayo Blanco has white sand and crystal blue waters. We plan on going there when we get back. I highly recommend going to the welcome meeting with when you get there (Thursday morning at 9 am I think). Elena (the sunwing rep) is really informative.

Bikes: there, bikes can be borrowed 9am - 4pm on weekdays. 9 am - 12 noon on Saturdays. We borrowed a bike and biked to the town (30 mins with stops).

Entertainment: I think there's a show every night but we didn't go see it every night. There's a schedule to the right of the stage for activities but other than that, there's not much to do at night.

Salon: I got a haircut for 5 CUC. It was great

Honestly, I really don't know why this place has an average of 4 stars. I'm going to write a very honest review, and in all honesty this was not a good resort by any means. The rooms were poorly maintained, our safe did not work, there were MANY bugs (spiders, beetles, roaches, etc), the food was literally the same every single day and often times the pool bar did not have food, and the beach was not good either. Yes, the mountain views were very nice, however if you're paying upwards of $800 (which is was we paid for the VIP) to get a nice view of mountains in Cuba, I think you need to re-evaluate your definition of a vacation. We thought the VIP upgrade would give us better rooms and more excursions, however we never received our snorkling tour, our gala dinners were a pain to book and finally we got them on the last two nights, we were promised an in-room safe which did not work, and the complimentary bottles of wine that we received did not come with a corkscrew, so we actually had to go around the hotel one night asking for a corkscrew which no one seemed to have anywhere on the resort lol. As for drinks, half the time a simple drink such as a pina colada was unavailable at all the bars. And many of the facilities of the resort are located on the Farralon side which is a 10 minute walk, however this section was actually closed at this time of the year and so we were unable to use those facilities. Again, no where on the site was this mentioned. Overall this was not a great experience, and looks bad on Sunwing as false advertising because the pictures and descriptions you see while booking this trip, do not at all match the reality when you get there.

Necesitan permitir a toda persona ciudadana cubana y con ciudadanía de otro país pueda acceder a todos los servicios y no excluirlos de los paseos en yates por ejemplo.

For bikers! Bottled water stop on the way to Pilon. We didn't stay here, but took a taxi from Pilon for bottled water (none available anywhere in Pilon). Great price for 5L jugs.

Not what i expected at all.thought a 2.5 hr bus ride was taking us to paradise! Well scenery it succeeded. But thats it. 98% retired returns for 20 yrs. Absolutly no entertainment during the day.areobics in the pool 5 join the same song plays over and over.bingo at 1.bar and pool bar amd pool close at 5 lol.you have to go to a different bar.no music.mmm food wad aweful beach sucked but we made the best of it.scenery was amazing. Never go back.old hotel as well

Horse and carriage driver Roberto speaks excellent English and will take you to Marea for dinner at a local Cuban restaurant. Fantastic guy! Ask for him. Horse adventure is available from Diomedes. Ask Roberto to take you there to make arrangements.

Great great great. Don't want to praise this place too much or it will be full year round. Good accomodations, good food and good service as well as a great price. Will go again. If u go take bags of toys 4 kids and clothes for all ages as well as meds, soaps and female items. Gum packs n candies n school supplies n teddy bears. Take the horse n buggy ride to Maria the closest tiny town and give it all away. Maybe even your own extra clothes. Go with full packed suitcases and return with empty ones. U will be glad u did. Great place to stay. Great weather. A rough 2 hr bus ride from airport to Hotel but a great experience.
